When someone sent me a link to a Day out with Thomas not too far from where we live – I just had to book it.
Noah is currently train MAD! I think it’s quite common for toddler type people to develop obsessions at this age (he’s 20 months) and his is trains and Thomas Tank Engine!
We were due to see our wonderful friends – Al, Jen and their son Teddy (from The Dad Network) anyway last weekend so I suggested we all went to see Thomas together, as I knew that Ted is also a train fan!
Initially when I booked the tickets – I thought the price of a child’s ticket from 18 months – 10 years was a little steep at £11, as I’m used to toddlers being cheaper, or even free. But in hindsight and having been on the day out, it was worth every penny.
On arriving at the Spa Valley Railway in Tunbridge Wells there were lots of activities for children to do before boarding the train, including a magic show, arts and crafts and a dressing up box.
We then went for a drink in the buffet cart before boarding our steam train which was one of Thomas’ friends (dunno which one, I’m clearly not as big a fan as my son!) The train took us on a lovely ride to Ffarquhar station where we got off. Again there were loads of things to do – a BBQ (not included in the ticket price), songs with the Fat Controller, and the opportunity to help out and wash some of the trains!
Thomas then arrived and took us on a little ten minute journey through the glorious Kent countryside. We were then dropped back at Ffarquhar with some more time to spare and a certificate from The Fat Controller, before heading back to where we started.
All the staff were lovely and helpful and really helped create a magical atmosphere for the children. I’d definitely recommend.
(*All tickets were paid for by ourselves – I’ve just written this review because I’m nice like that!)
